We celebrated J-boys' birthday a little while ago. We just had a quiet party with the 4 (and a half) of us -- it was so fun to see him so excited about it all!
K was happy to help him -- we have a tradition of hiding the presents, then the b-day kid has to find them. K hid them all while J-boy took a nap. When he woke up, they snuck around together when I wasn't looking and she showed him where each gift was hidden. :) I'd told them we had to wait till Daddy got home to open presents, so the SECOND Joseph walked through the door the kids were racing around the room ripping presents from their hiding spots. So much for cake and ice cream first! Or dinner or anything else for that matter.
J-boy wanted a Lightning McQueen birthday (and was adamant about a Lightning McQueen cake -- the birthday boy gets to pick what we eat for dinner, and he was quite upset when I told him he needed something IN ADDITION to Lightning McQueen cake for dinner). Anyway, I spent about 2 hours the weekend before looking at fancy marshmallow fondant sculpted car cakes online. Then I decided to keep it simple. :) He liked the result at first....

Love the pout! That's a cute idea to hide the presents! How fun!
That is so cute!! I remember when Jex turned two, he did the same thing. Only it was with the spiderman that was stuck to the top of his. Yeah, for Jonathan three is a great number to be. Can you believe how fast they grow? I can't. Happy Birthday Jonathan!!
I LOVE the simple versions of cakes...and the kids think they're just as great! That's a really cute cake. Happy b-day J-boy!
Yes, that is a very masterful pout! I'm reminded of one of Dave's birthdays when we lived in Virginia -- I said we had to wait till Dad got home to open presents, then I went for a walk up the culdesac. Dad passed me driving towards home, and by the time I got back all the presents were opened, I'd missed the whole thing! Good thing I had wrapped them so I knew what they were, or I'd have been really upset! :-)
I'm sure your cake tasted better than a fondant cake anyways:) I love the idea of hiding the presents - I just might have to try that with Megan this year!
So I showed Ryan these pictures, and he got so excited to see J's new helmet/soldier outfit thing (whatever it's called!) - he said he had the exact same one when he was that age. I guess some things never change ... :)
I shouldn't think that that video clip is hilarious! How mean you are!!! lol No, Cameronn cried on his first bday when we wouldn't let him destroy the cake at first sight-we wanted pics first. I love your updates! TFS
